At the Sullivan Law Group, we believe our elders deserve respect. Unfortunately, in adult family homes and nursing homes,elderly residents are particularly susceptible to neglect and abuse.

The abuse may be by physical force or violence to cause bodily harm, injury, or pain to an individual. Yet, Abuse is not always violent. Neglect can cause bedsores/pressure sores/pressure ulcers, which are open wounds that often occur on skin covering bony areas of the body.

When an elderly or disabled patient or resident becomes bedridden or wheelchair bound, they become dependent on the nursing home, assisted living, or rehabilitation staff to perform frequent position changes to prevent bedsores from developing. If the staff fail to properly perform these position changes, bedsores and ulcers can develop. Besides the immediate pain that these bedsores cause, they can also lead to further deterioration of a resident’s health, including complications such as sepsis, a life-threatening infection.
